Not a joke as such, but in several episodes, taffy is mentioned, and I'm just not clear as to what taffy is. I know it's a foodstuff, but that's about it!

You're both wrong. Taffy is neither toffee nor a hard candy. Taffy is a stretchy, extremely chewy sugar candy, a kind that can pull out dental fillings if you're not careful.
Lots of tourist spots in the U.S. sell salt-water taffy (e.g. Larry Burns' tourist stand in Ogdenville); to be honest, I'm not sure how salt water plays a part in the manufacture of the stuff, but it's really tasty.

In Hunka Hunka Burns in Love, why does Smithers ask that Mr. Burns wear a petticoat on his first date with Gloria? I know Smithers is gay but I don't quite understand why he would ask something like that on a date with a woman.

I don't understand the joke in the episode where Marge sold real estate and she and Hutz accidentally knocked over a wall to Lenny's house and he was eating breakfast and asked, "Please don't tell anyone how I live!"

Sunday's episode where OFF consider moving into his apartment make me think of it.

yeah the whole Lenny house thing is weird, i mean they showed that in 'Realty Bites' but in 'Secrets Of A Successful Marriage' it showed him in a proper nice house, while him and his mates were playing cards. However, i haven't seen 'Helter Shelter' yet as it airs on January 5th in the UK (one day before my birthday).

This isn't a joke or anything, but eBAY is mentioned a few times on the show "Damn you, eBAY," and "I WILL NOT SELL MY KIDNEY ON eBAY" to name but a few. I know what eBAY is, but I don't know what it stands for. Anyone able to help?

i don't beleive it stands for anything, just catchy, and everything electronic is e-something. It was started by a guy who's girlfriend collected pez dispensers and he wanted her to have a way to trade and buy them online.
it is also pig-latin for 'be', but i doubth that's what they were going for:D
do an ebay search for 'nothing', someone's always selling it, and someone's always buying it! sometime's you can buy an ass-whooping too:D

Lenny's apartment was also kind of seen in 'poppas got a brand new badge'. Just in the commercial it was redecorated a little.

Heres one. In Secrets Of A Successful Marriage, when Smithers is remembering his mariage, it is black and white, and Smithers is on crutches. He speaks to his wife and drinks whiskey, then Mr Burns (in a toga) calls him from outside. I know this is from a movie, but which one?

I think the only reason they bad mouth the grammies is that it is getting to be a very old tradition and they really like taking the mick other from that i do not know, its a very tricky subject, where as the joke for Twin Peaks: you know the bit when Homers watching TV and on the program theres that guy dancing with a horse and he says "you've got nice coffee here in twin peaks, and some damn good apple pie" then homer says " He he he! Brilliant...... I have no idea whats going on!" What the hell is all that about, i've always been confused on this subject.

Twin Peaks was a tv series in the early 90's, where these kind of bizarre things happened. Twas about the murder on a woman, and the cop that was sent to investigate it had ' damn good coffee' as a catchphrase. It was a very complicated series for the public, however, so the ratings dropped and dropped until it got cancelled

twin peaks was not difficult, it's a brilliant show, made by David Lynch, arguably the best director alive today. It was about the murder of a 16 yr old coke head /prostitute/ prom queen (riveting!) The FBI detective had dreams that would have clues in them, the simpsons scene is a riff on that, they always took place in a room with red curtains and a checkered floor. the actors spoke the lines and words backwards, then they played the tape the other way, so it comes out in english, but very wierd. There's also one where a large white horse visits the mother, which I think marge sees in an episode. Rent the videos from blockbuster, or watch Bravo, they showed a marathon 2 weeks ago, or rent the movie 'fire walk with me'
The Smither's black and white marriage thing is from Cat on a hot Tin Roof, where Paul Newman plays Liz Taylors troubled husband. Troubled mostly because he's pretty sure he's gay.

*edit* they badmouth the grammies because they're a joke, it's not about good music, just the music with the most payola.

"A Streetcar Named Desire", I think. I may be wrong - I heard somewhere that it's some other film.
