New Simpsons is torture, and yet... you still watch it? I see what's going on here.

I think. I dunno, who cares.

I think. I dunno, who cares.

Pain is the cleanser.

BTW, since I hate Lady Ga Ga, a great idea for a gag--no, episode--would be for Homer and Ga Ga to 69 each other the entire 22 minutes because: We wouldn't have to hear Homer cry and whine,* Ga Ga wouldn't be able sing any of her shitty or Jean-written tune-age, and it'd keep us away from the "inspirational" Lisa plot. (There'd be no time for a post-69, Ga Ga "Marriage Crisis" Plot, either.) Every time there'd be a return from a commerical break, we'd see them at a different angle. Hell, the DVD commentary would be amazing.

GA GA: Hey! Where'd all my parts go?

JEAN: They're under Homer's head? (giggles)

GA GA: No, my singing!

JEAN: We gave them to Tress McNeil--she sounded better anyways.

*= it's been said Homer's dialog no longer resembles a real human being's, well maybe some of the noises he makes down there just might.

i would much rather listen to Lady Gaga singing than fucking Tress McNeil you fucking loser

I think we as a message board can do better than goddamn blowjob analogies

it crosses the line and makes the guy who called jean hitler look reasonable

It just kind of kills an argument when you criticize bad comedy by using even worse comedy.

It's like Larry the Cable Guy criticizing Carlos Mencia or something.

Bart: Yo, Jake, have you seen Milhouse today?
Jake: No.
Bart: Okay, thanks. [starts to leave]
Jake: Wait! Did you know that there's a direct correlation between the decline of The Simpsons and the rise in Al Jean? Think about it!
Bart: I will. [walks off]
Jake: No you won't.

Lady Gaga makes a pit stop in Springfield after learning that it’s teeming with low self-esteem, and winds up trying to cheer up a dejected Lisa through the power of speech, song, and a flash mob.

As much as it makes me wanna puke, if Lady Ga Ga's visit ends with her saying: "I got to become a freak-show performer because of Low Self-Esteem and I want you all to cheer up so you don't put my 'act' in any danger!" as the twisted moral of the story, I'd find that very amusing. (Then it turns out the Jockey Elves were her "little monsters.")

But really, how LOW does one's self esteem need to be for Lady Gaga to make you feel better? Looking at the residents of Springfield, instead of Lady Gaga, how about doing some sit ups? Or, maybe they should take some insulin, or how about 6-8 glasses of water a day?

Oddly enough, she's actually a really talented singer/musician. Go watch some earlier videos of her.

The autotune, bad singing, freakshow stuff is mostly for sales. I don't think it's self-esteem at all. You just kind of have to sing badly on purpose and act in provocative ways to be a pop singer.

Which, speaking of, she sucks in her modern incarnation, but she's not really any worse than any other pop star they've had on The Simpsons for the most part.

I hope this lady gaga is the worst episode ever, because i know it will not be good and it is more fun to bitch about if it is the worst

I think it'll be so bad, it will make The Greatest Story Ever D'ohed look like Last Exit to Springfield.

I know, but this episode needs a joke about the value of low self-esteem: "If everyone grew up with high self-esteem, where would porn stars come from?"

I didn't watch the show religiously for the first time in... well, ever last year, but I've gotta admit the 500th episode sounds interesting.

And c'mon guys, the cast of Glee is about a thousand times worse than Lady Gaga, and you survived through that.

I'm going to go so far as to say that this Lady Gaga as inspirational fairy godmother idea is ....... good.

The Lady Gaga thing sounds rather like a protracted version of Michelle Obama's appearance in 'Stealing First Base'

In other words, it's likely to be completely out of place on the show and disruptive to the fabric of the shows format. The obsession with guest stars was tiresome back in the Scully days, and despite the fact Season 23 clearly has some good episode ideas, personally I'm not enticed by it.

Christmas episode - December 2011
  • For the Christmas special in 2011 we'll see Homer and Marge 30 years in the future as empty nesters, with Bart, Lisa and Maggie bringing their own kids over for Christmas - likely Holidays of Future Passed. (Source)
  • Jean: "[Bart]'s a deadbeat dad, he's living in the school, which is now a condo."(Source)

500th episode - February 19, 2012
Al Jean says of the episode: "There's a secret town meeting that the Simpsons aren't invited to, and then they sneak in and they find out it's a meeting discussing whether to ban them from Springfield, because people are so sick of them after all this time. But there are more surprises." (Source)

Can't wait for these episodes!

I wonder what Bart, Lisa and Maggie will look like this time in the future.
We already saw how they looked in Lisa's Wedding and Bart to the Future, what will it be THIS time?

Here's the thing, I don't hate Lady Gaga. I'm extremely indifferent to her. When I hear her songs, I say "well, that's kind of catchy, but meh," then move on.

But you have to remember The Simpsons' key demographic here: male teens and adults, and I'd be willing to bet that the majority of them feel the same way I do. This is just another of the show's many recent attempts to reach new demographics via guest stars - be it the Glee cast, Katy Perry, American Idol people, Kesha's stupid song, etc.

And they're doing this at the risk of alienating their loyal fans in their key demographic. It's kind of like Sesame Street having Marilyn Manson as a guest in hopes of reaching an older audience.

And that's why I dislike this idea. From what I've read, it seems like they're bringing in a big name guest star, writing a weak plot around them that favours them, and hoping it attracts new audiences.

And for the record, I'm not saying every guest star should be Brent Spiner or Seth Rogen or someone that will reach the show's main audience. I'd have no problem with Lady Gaga having a cameo, or playing a character. But I really hate the idea of writing an episode around her.

I pretty much decided that beginning with the new season, I'm going to become more of a casual fan than a regular viewer. Like I probably won't follow what next week's is about or learn episode titles because I'll only watch it when I really feel like making the effort. I read an opinion column in a magazine saying how no one is obligated to watch a TV show just to complain about it and feel worse before it came on, and I really agreed with it. "Yeah, well they shouldn't have become stale" really isn't a legitimate excuse for tuning in every week just to go to the review thread and give it a 1/5, because nobody's telling the viewer to waste their time with it. And "casual viewer" is better than The Office, which I never expect to bring my irises into contact with as long as I'm alive now that Michael's gone.

She's not that bad, I mean "The Fame" was an enjoyable piece of music.

I do think that with subsequent releases, she's trying too much to be Madonna and well, that's rubbing into her recent output.
