Season 14 continues when Homer gains control of the Power Plant! When Marge becomes too tired to sleep with him on Valentine's Day Homer decides to take a self-improvement course which leads him to take note of ways he can improve the plant's efficiency. Unfortunately Mr. Burns cares nothing for this and drops him into a pool of electric eels. Homer vows revenge, but overhears that a canary is in fact the true owner of the plant and uses this information to his advantage. He manipulates Burns into giving him control and promptly fires the old man. Burns eventually returns for revenge, but by then Homer is disillusioned with the CEO life and gives Burns back control rather willingly as we end the episode with father and son fighting over baseball.
I liked this one quite a bit on this viewing. The first act is particularly strong. Maggie dancing to Sex Bomb is a joke I've always loved but never remembered was in this episode. The self-help guy throwing Moleman through the window was also good. We got some decent material at the Power Plant too; Lenny and Carl's debate over which Star Wars prequel was worse was still funny, if dated. I liked where the plot went involving the canary, and Burns' revenge being foiled due to his own weakness was great. The shot of Homer covering him with the blanket at the end was very nicely laid out.
It wasn't perfect, the ending in particular felt somewhat rushed, but this was one of the stronger episodes of the season so far. I'll say a strong 4/5.
PS: That Flanders looking in on them from his dark window gag was also very good. I never realized just how many times they've done that joke but it has to be at least three.
PPS: I never noticed this before but on Burns' chart indicating rank of all the Plant workers you can see a photo of Frank Grimes with a slash through it which I thought was pretty cool as well.
