I first watched this when I liked family guy, and hadn't yet grown to realize how awful it is. There's some funny jokes here like the rape prank call to moe and the one with Maggie and Chris. Overall however, it isn't great.

Family Guy (especially in later seasons) has always been crude and over-reliant on mean spirited jokes and shock humor, at least this episode has some funny jokes.

It's possible that it's not a bad episode by Family Guy standards. In that case, I'm not interested in watching the show. I stand by my criticisms, not sure if they go directly to The Simpsons Guy in particular or to Family Guy as a whole. I mean, if it's the typical offer of Family Guy... I simply don't get it. All the trends I could perceive here were not of my liking. I guess Brian is the only element of the show that trapped me. I tried to don't compare this with The Simpsons; I tried to judge this episode as if it was a movie, like accepting whatever they'd try as long as it's well done. You can see I didn't complain about the appearance of Kang and Kodos, for example, something that I would negatively note if it'd happened in a normal episode the Simpsons. But, again, no matter if overlong fight sequences or cringeworthy scenes are or not usual in the show because I didn't take into account that context.

I think this show is not made for me but I'd love to watch an abridged version of the show composed of the essential episodes and the best ones, so I could understand more this episode and get more into it because I must admit that there were good things here and there.

Family guy for the most part is a simpsons rip off minus all the things that make the simpsons great and adding a bunch of needlessly vile shock humor. This is a great episode by modern Family Guy standards, which speaks volumes of the show. Family Guy was never very good, but it was fine for the first 8 or so seasons. The Road To The Multi-verse is one of the few worth watching, if only for the effort put into the animation.

The road to... episodes are worth watching.

The star wars parodies are worth watching.

And then there were fewer... is worth watching.

That's 14 episodes worth watching out of about 300. Pretty awful.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who hated this episode. This has to be the worst piece of shit I've ever seen. It's that bad. It is completely pointless. This was written by Family Guy writers and is proves that these 2 shows don't mix. Putting the Simpsons into the Family Guy world ruins what we love about The Simpsons. Everybody in the Simpsons were way out of character. Homer drinking gasoline?!! WTF?!!! Him joining Peter in a Grown Ups spoof?!! I puked!! Lisa telling Meg to shut up? That wasn't right and the same telling Meg she has giant hands. At least they had a heart warming moment for a couple of minutes. But that fat asshole Peter ruins it by throwing the saxaphone into the trash. NOT FUNNY!! What was the worst part? The chicken fight. More worthless filler!! After witnessing how horrible Peter was, Lisa could have confronted Peter and stood up for Meg. When Santas' Little Helperran away, people should have jumped on Brian said " Stop that dog!" That would have been funny because Brian is a dog. That teamup was boing. Even the Bart and Stewie was bad. The prank call was unfunny. Overall, I give this a 0.5 Simpsonrama was much better because both The Simpsons and Futurama were created by Matt Groening and there was a better connection. There was a crossover in the comics where both shows collided and it was awesome. The one true crossover Family Guy should do is with American Dad and not just cameos. A real story on Peter and his family visiting Virginia. I would love to see Brian and Klaus and the same with Stewie and Roger. Over all, Simpson Guy is one episode that left a vile taste in my mouth and burned my eyes. I'm glad the Simpsons got to redeemed themselves after this dreck. I never want to see it again and it gets a big fat 0.

I think the later seasons are rather more boring. The earlier HD days relied on more mean spirited jokes and shock humor. Season 12 was awful for this reason. There were like 8 awful episodes in that season alone.

Yeah, season 12 was the worst of the worst, especially fresh heir.

Honestly, I thought Fresh Heir was okay until the second half. When Chris and Carter were bonding, weird yes, but I found it funny. It was when Peter revealed he wanted to marry Chris for the money when I started to dislike it. There are far worst episodes for me (Stewie is Enciente, Brian's a Bad Father, German Guy, Herpe the Love Sore, Vestigal Peter, Trump Guy, etc)

Chris giving Carter a hand job? Numerous incest jokes? It was pretty terrible.

I realized I haven't reviewed this episode yet despite seeing it around the time of its release (maybe because I'm not a 'Family Guy' fan). Will probably do a shorter write-up sooner or later.

By the way, If Szyslak100 wants a recommendation of what 'Family Guy' to watch, I'd go out on a limb say the first three seasons (before the show got cancelled and it was revived). It is often said that the show was better before it got revived (those first three are nicer and more likeable for sure; seems like ever since the show came back it gradually got meaner and crueler, often in rather extreme and more or less disturbing ways), despite the first few revival seasons seeming to be fairly well liked.

I would say that Family Guy in its first five seasons was consistently good. One of the funniest shows I've ever seen. It definitely changes after season three, but that's mostly because the original writing staff wasn't there anymore. David Zuckerman was the showrunner in seasons 1-3 and he wasn't there either.

Seasons 6-8 were pretty good, but there were more bad episodes and the tone became a lot harsher. Then the show went to HD and it became hit or miss for good. The bad episodes stood out a lot because some of them were the worst episodes in the series. And ever since season 14, it's been a slow decline up until now. Other than the occasional episode or joke, the show is on life support now and I don't think that's ever going to change.

if anyone can beat out Alf Clausen, it's Walter Murphy. the man is a genius with music, probably my favourite musician ever and his music's always been in films and shows. the orchestral disco stuff he did back in the 70s is like no other, and i'm not talking about the fifth of beethoven either. i'm talking about the obscure stuff he did in library music that no one besides people who watch vintage pornos would ever hear. number 6090 production music on major records is one of my favourite and most played records ever.

Oh yes, "Can't Let You Go" is my favorite track he did for the Major Records/Valentino music library. It'd be funny if "Family Guy" dusted off some of those old music cues to use in certain situations, since Walter Murphy wrote them.

I'm not a fan of Family Guy at all, I've seen a few episodes here and there, and a lot of humor in it doesn't really appeal to me at all, especially the gross out humor. While that humor is present in this special episode, I still give it a 2/5 mainly because of that fight scene between Peter and Homer. I am aware of the whole "Chicken vs Peter" thing, but I didn't really think about it when seeing the fight. Honestly, seeing the Homer v Peter fight makes me want to see a action Simpsons episode, but I highly doubt that will happen. Aside from the fight, the rest of it is forgettable. Not sure what I would give it out of a 10 thou, maybe a 6/10 or 7/10.

I loved this episode. My favorite part has to be Brian and Chris in the kitchen doing the voices. Even though I am definitely biased in my liking of Family Guy over The Simpsons, I think that the FG characters stole the show in this episode in the best way possible, although I think the blend of the two families worked really well.
Another scene that makes me laugh out loud every time I see it is when Stewie hears Bart's catch phrase and Stewie is like "Oh I like that, is that a common phrase like What the Deuce?" and Brian is like "Probably more popular." God that scene is just perfect LOL.
Here's the scene if you haven't seen it in a while:

I really enjoyed this as well when it first came out almost nine years ago, it was good to see the Griffins get out from Quahog for a while after what happened before they ended up in Springfield. I will say, this crossover episode was very epic, so... Yeah, I'm gonna give this 5/5

Some time back, I heard from somewhere that Rough Draft Korea actually assisted Digital eMation in the overseas animation production for this, albeit uncredited. How it worked was that Rough Draft did much of the animation of the Simpsons characters, and Digital eMation did the animation of the "Family Guy" characters and settings, and they combined their animation with Rough Draft's in the coloring and compositing stages, since such digital technology can make it easy to do so. There are a few bits here and there where it looks like eMation animated a Simpsons character, most obvious when their movements are more jerky and limited like a "Family Guy" character. One fairly obvious bit is when Peter and Homer are walking up to the gas station; Homer's animated in a somewhat choppy "Family Guy"-esque style by eMation, and then when the shot changes to him and Peter drinking from the gas pumps, Homer's animation switches to Rough Draft and looks like how their usual Simpsons animation does (especially the Matt Selman episodes). But I guess since Rough Draft was only providing character animation for much of the Simpsons characters, they chose to not be credited. (Rough Draft also animated on some Season 2 episodes of "Family Guy", and they also worked on the animation of Brian and Stewie's television song number from the 2007 Emmys, so they were no stranger to the show.)

This is very interesting. I noticed the animation stepped up once the Griffins got to Springfield, so maybe the combination of styles is why.

About 8 and a half years later after this episode, Family Guy already did another crossover with The Simpsons and Bob's Burgers only in a cutaway gag. So I hope Family Guy would get a crossover episode with American Dad someday, even though American Dad is still in TBS and is no longer on FOX anymore

Yeah, there definitely needs to be a crossover between FG & AD! I'm kinda surprised it hasn't happened yet. AD is almost 20 years old! A crossover makes too much sense! I hope AD being on TBS wouldn't make it harder to happen though.

I’ve never seen Family Guy but I liked this. My least favorite part was Harry Shearer not being there. How you can do a big Simpsons episode like this with no Skinner, Mr. Burns, or Ned Flanders? If anything, this episode just made me realize that they need to end the show in the next ten years while he’s still alive.

I found this episode alright, but I always found it felt a bit underwhelming and could've done more with the families, particularly Marge and Lois. Like, I wish we had a tiny subplot with the two wives, or at least had them more involved with Homer and Peter's plot.

The Santa’s Little Helper plot also seemed to end rather abruptly with him just randomly coming back. I was expecting for Brian to actually do something to find him and it just seemed odd.
