Pig Moon Rising (8.17/15-03-2017)

So, this one gave perspective for Luke. As the whole family's members wait for his college admission, he learns no one accepted him. So, Phil , with Claire, decides to see an old childhood friend who also is a community college's dean. But Luke's honesty was great in this one.

Meanwhile, Mitchell helped Haley to avoid some unpaid tickets (and Sarah broke her leg in real life), while Cameron destroyed Lilly's draw and discovered Mitch sprayed his pig's ashes (which also was named Lilly). Jay wanted to go to a concert, leaving Gloria and Manny shopping together, where Manny saw a kind of himself...

Five Minutes (8.18/29-03-2017)

OK, this episode should have been a successful one, because of the format. Each story lenghts about five minutes. Alas, the same again and again.

For example, Mitch and Cam. They have to stay awake between two flights, because they took too much sleeping pills.

And roles are reversed for Manny, Gloria and Jay . He has to drive and to find a right parking spot while Jay and Gloria argue all time.

As for Phil and Claire, they finally find Alex and Ben together while visiting her and Rainer proposes to Haley, yep.

Frank's Wedding (8.19/05-04-2017)

So, it's an episode about Frank who marries Lorraine. Though she and Ray appear in this one, they are never seen or mentioned again after that one. So, the Dunphies all attend the wedding dressed up at 1920's characters. Phil is too goofy and asked to be more serious.

Notice that in France, Frank's snoring replaced the noise he made while falling off from his chair.

Meanwhile, as Jay actually realizes no is not the best answer when being asked a service, Cam sees Pam again. Guess she has a child now.

All Things Being Equal (8.20/03-05-2017)

So, this episode apparently was voted as the weakest from the series. Can't understand why, it had some solid good plots.

So, remember Dunphy tower was impossible to build ? Apparently, Jay and Phil created a parking spot instead. But the two clash over the responsible. Jay prefered the quiet Tibor (who apparently just was able to say his name) while Phil got along very well with Joane (Niecy Nash).

That was cool, the women (the whole female main cast, so Lilly too) attend to a rallye was well . It turns out Claire, Lilly, Haley, Gloria and Alex are all in that rallye but the flat tire may change their plans. Luke and Manny attend, from their side, and it seems Luke does not really understand the thing, it was funny.

As for Mitch and Cam, now they do have a nephew from Cam's side but Pam seems to prefer Mitch's help rather than his brother's.

Alone Time (8.21/10-05-2017)

So, this episode is the pre season finale. In it, Mitch finds himself overhelmed. So that he decides to have a break alone in the desert. But he ignores Jay joined him. In fact, both are under pressure, and find themselves some common grounds together. So, i admit their story was good.

Meanwhile, the Dunphies feel some kind of déjà vu. They planned none of their kids, (Luke was planned in the original version, i reassure you), and as Luke's graduation approaches, he prepares a kind of prank which maks him partially deaf. Alex's nosebleeds returns as she prepares for her final exams. So, when Dylan shows up (apparently, they can't get rid of him, but luckily, if i did not tell you, seasons 6,8 and 9 only each featured an episode with him), married, and with kids (hmm, stepkids would be better), it makes Haley cry. So, Phil and Claire just flee, that part was cool, but i wish we saw more of the kids in that.

And Cam is apparently unable to spend an evening alone, as Lilly and Pam left the episode after the teaser. So, he shows up at Gloria's but Gloria is very sick and Cam creates drama, first by ruining Manny's girlfriend's car then by destroying Joe's cape. Hilarious.

The Graduates (8.22/17-05-2017)

So, it's the big day for Manny and Luke, as they prepare to be graduated. Luke has to persuade Claire to obtain a car he wants to give to his parents. (i wonder how many they do have, but they sure are rich). Meanwhile, Phil practices with the girls. The reason ? He does not want to cry during the graduation so, he gradually watches young Luke's photos in order to exit all his tears. Luke finally gets the car for himself, is it what he always wanted ?

Javier returns as well in this episode and Jay takes Manny to a strip club. Actually, he takes him there because Javier already took him the previous night, and Manny, who was drunk, left his graduation attire and forgot to take it with him. Man, Jay and Manny's relation was very nice, especially when you learn that Jay's rule was initially not to date women with kids after her divorce.

We knew how Phil and Claire met in 8.12 (she hit him with her car, seriously), but now, we learn more about the patriarch.

Elsewhere, Doug Budin plays Lilly's principal. Apparently, his task is to inform Mitch and Cam that Lilly may skip a class, last minute plot, i guess.

And season 9

Lake Life (9.01/27-09-2017)

So, the family takes vacation on a boat. It turns out Ben came with them. Why ? Because Alex asked Claire to do so.

So, Ben is a real burden in it. He is just the new butt monkey, to the point even Alex is fed up with him. The four main kids are stranded on an island because both Haley and Luke fell in love with someone whose gender is never precised, while Ben has to watch Lilly and Joe. As for Manny, it's Manuel now and he tries again to change his personality in order to please some girl.

Meanwhile, Cam and Gloria have their own adventure when Cam wears some ridiculous suit because his skin must'nt be exposed to sun. Mitch meets some guy he kissed during a summer camp. This guy, Scotty, is actually gay and Mitch believed he was straight. Scotty has some fish store now.

Jay learns that a rival of him passed away and all he wants to do is to take some family time notably during the eclipse's day. Strange thing, nobody seems to remember all the good deeds he did for them. And Phil and Claire tried to prove they were young again, meh.

The Long Goodbye (9.02/04-10-2017)

So, the College's time for Manny. This time, he goes to Juillard, this is official. And now, he wants to avoid so sad goodbyes between he and Jay's family. Yep.

Meanwhile, Phil and Claire go to visit Alex at Caltech (seriously, this begins to be some reharsh). Luke has a new employee whose name is Haley although the latter is torn when she meets Vanessa Williams (the angel/devil was good).

Meanwhile, Mitchell and Cameron have some problems when their kitchen burns, and don't forget Pam still lives with them and Lilly.

Catch of The Day (9.03/11-10-2017)

OK, very few good points at this one. I was really really disappointed. So, this episode shares its title with a Dexter's Laboratory's one.

But i really liked Joe's room in it. Man, they managed to do a nice space. Elsewhere, Jay wants to prove Gloria is a disaster when she drives. But in future episode, she drives well, and it has been said she was a taxi driver in Columbia, very illogical. I liked the only scene where we see Joe and the only scene where we see Manny.

Meanwhile, Mitch and Cam renovate their kitchen, well try to, but the employee keeps calling Mitchell by his name and Cam... boss. It irritates Cam, and he also has to handle Pam whom he believes she is a hooker ? (seriously).

But the most disappointing one was Phil and Claire. Phil is persuaded he will have a very bad day, because he missed a rite (with his underwear ?) and Claire is desperate to go to a concert. And, Haley's phone disappeared (very useful).

Sex, Lies and Kickballs (9.04/18-10-2017)

A very good episode. So, you remember Ben and Alex date heh ? Know, Claire and Phil want to know him more. Man this guy is just... very annoying. I actually wonder how she could be attracted by him. Maybe the fact she was single ? Phil is the one who tries to temper the situation because it mirrors his when he started to date Claire.

Meanwhile, Shorty is back from Costa Rica, but without Darlene. And Jay does not like the fact Gloria is always with him. Very great episode, but i don't think the two women's presence could be very useful.

And Mitch and Cam discover Pepper and Ronaldo adopted Lionel, an afro american boy who only appears in this episode. Very interesting to compare their fatherhood to Lilly. Oh, yes, Pepper is back after he missed season 8.

It's The Great Pumpkin, Phil Dunphy (9.05/25-10-2017)

A very great Halloween episode. I really enjoyed it. So, Phil and Claire try to convince their kids you still can celebrate this kind of fest, even if it means no tricks or candies. In this one, Phil disguises himself in a giant pumpkin and accidentally ruins his neighbor's Carole's garden while Claire just tries to bring some zombies at work.

But the kids aren't better. Luke breaks up with a girl in order to be with an another and ends up injured, Alex and Ben split (he finally exits) after she realizes he was not only a man child, but a bastard and Haley's audition as a dancer fails (like all she does).

Since their kitchen is still is renovation, Mitch asks Jay to help him. Very manly , but very nice. They smoke again (Mitch said he had lost his mind, when he tried to, while Jay promised to stop, but still). Cam, meanwhile, overbounds Gloria's limits and she becames irritated by it.

Notes :

- No Manny in this one, a premiere since season 7. So, it makes Alex and Luke the only kids to appear in every Halloween episodes. This also is the last episode where Manny is the only absent cast member.

Ten Years Later (9.06/01-11-2017)

Ah, time travel. Very nice, even if not so much explored. It starts with Phil wanting to practice some magical because Claire organizes Jay and Gloria's tenth anniversary. Apparently, they married before the show start.

But Jay has two others problems. First, he has to get rid of Manny, especially when the latter comes home from college. In fact, Jay is very ungrateful because Manny helped him during the wedding, but apparently, Jay forgot about that. And second, Gloria may not to dress in her old wedding's dress because she became fat. And Mitch even snobs Cam during a drummer solo.

Winner Winner Turkey Dinner (9.07/15-11-2017)

So, this episode marks Joseph Cagliari's last time as well as the fact Mitch calls Cam by his full name (in french, he even calls him Mitchell, notice in french, Cam is always called Cameron).

So, in this episode, it's Thanksgiving. But every family member cheated. Jay actually got Joe fired from kindergarten, because he disagreed about some information regarding a Thanksgiving's play. Mitch tried to play nunchaku but knocked himself and made Cam and Lilly believe he neutralized a robber.

Both Claire and Gloria cheated, Gloria with a podometer, and Claire, with Alex's help at a race. As for Luke, he wanted some popularity in a network but his negligence cost him Joe's safety (notice this is the first time the two interact together, though a 7.09 deleted scene showed Joe on Phil's shoulders) and so, he tried to bribe Manny while Phil and Haley performed a magical act.

As for Cameron, he stole his opponent'method in order to win a game. Now, i know at least three family members who are sore loser (again, not a judgment).

Brushes With Celebrities (9.08/29-11-2017)

An episode devoted to celebrities which gives some Alex and Luke's scenes very pleasant. Let's start with Phil who has to sell a house to Chris Martin from Coldplay, a group Luke actually did not like as he prefered Metal Trash, Death Note and Little Mermaid. Alex helps Claire who joined a lecture's club and eschewed the book she read, to the point she wanted to use the good words.

Meanwhile, Gloria and Manny had lunch in a restaurant where Manny saw his favourite bitter writer who actually cried. Billy Crystal appears as himself later in the episode, fortunately, we got his name during the trailer. Jay, for his plot, was a juror and met the judge again and... Terry Bradshaw who at first befriended him then rejected him due to Jay being judgmental about his former actor's career.

Meanwhile, Mitch and Cam go to a gardening store and see a famous anchor whose show is such a success they desperately want to participate in. They do not know what they expect...

Tough Love (9.09/06-12-2017)

So, it seems Cartoon Network actually inspired ABC, or something like that. This episode does share a title with a Powerpuff Girls one (even tough the MF one is a lot better).

It starts with Phil who wants to prove his masculinity and has a new real state agence. He wants to camp alone a week in the woods, but if he fails, he has a room with view on garden in a hotel. Claire jumps on the occasion in order to drive a truck (does she have the license ? Probably) and Margaret just appears.

Meanwhile, Manny is the third kid who dates an older woman, much older that time, because it's a teacher. Yep.

And Mitch wants to make Cam and Lilly responsible, because Cam is too naive and Lilly too immature. But Lilly has to keep an eye on her cousin, not a plastic doll, while Cam meets a undercover cop, whom he does not even believe.

No Small Feet (9.10/13-12-2017)

Probably my favourite season 9 episode. But hey, i'm feet female fetish. So, it's normal.

This episode begins with Luke wanting to photography Alex's bare feet while she is sleeping. He explains that a lot of fetishist are present on the web and want to see her feet. I agree. So, they sell her shoes, very good one. Very very good one.

Meanwhile, Claire and Jay learn that they are finalist for Expo Internationale du Closet (it's written like this on the resume). So, both expect the other congratulates him/her, but he probably does not happen until...

As for Phil, he asks Gloria to help him to sell a house to a sceptical woman , some very good ambiance. Meanwhile, Mitch and Cam learn that Cal' s biological dad and Pam's ex husband is in town...

- In French, Mitch mentions Zack Efron, instead of Demi Lovato

A basic one. But i liked it. Phil and Claire compete and Claire wins the right to use a shed in the garden. But Luke and Alex tell Phil it's unfair (ell, Luke , mainly) and sometimes later, Claire learns the neighborhood vehemently rejects her project. But i really liked it.

Meanwhile, Pam hides Cam some familial secret and he ends up meeting Mitch's psychiatrist (she looks more like a witch) while again, Manny feels jealous because Jay favors Joe who wants to become a golfer (reharsh).

Dear Beloved Family (9.12/10-01-2018)

So, it's the 200th one, but i admit i'm a bit disappointed on it.

Firstly, Phil organizes a kind of Olympic Games on his own and Frank comes from Florida, but nobody seems interested. Then, Phil organizes the Bronco Game for Joe and his friends, but soon, he has to be hospitalized because some gall bladder's problems. Gloria does not even call an ambulance, she prefers instead bring him directly and while he suffers, Claire has a sock problems (i wish she could remove it), Alex has to feed a cat and Haley and Luke work at Jay's club. All rush , especially when Joe's fest is ruined after Jay tried a realistic approach and after Mitch and Cam tried to make some Latin Romain photo.

- I still wonder why it's Phil, not Jay who was. He is more the patriarch clan as he said in 6.19

In Your Head (9.13/17-01-2018)

I actually liked that one.

Let's start with the game i created. Remember when i said in earlier seasons one of the parents had a major role in every episodes ? It was not Claire and it's not Mitch and Cam either. They barely appear in this episode, just in the teaser, the tag and two brief minor scenes. This week, they receive Joshua Jackson, a friend of them, named Max, who encourages them to enjoy the best moments. Very good plot.

Meanwhile, Phil rallies on Manny because Luke had been missing for some days. With Gloria, they try to search him, this was a very kind one.

And Claire decided to befriend Earl's daughter after he died, in order to create a friendship, not a rivality between the two. Naturally, Jay could not accept it, he can be very stubborn sometimes.

This episode also introduces Chris Geere (This Is Us) as Arvin Finnerman, Alex's physical science's teacher whom Haley meets for the first time.

Written in the Stars (9.14/28-02-2018)

Ok, i must admit they made an effort with Valentine's day. This was a cool one.

Phil and Claire interact with Joe for the first time, not including deleted scenes. They must babysit him, while they are dressed as Grease's characters during Jay and Gloria's night out. The only weird element was ... wait Joe has a crush on his half paternal sister ?

Meanwhile, Mitch and Cam ruin Luke's date and try to fix it. I actually found that part very interesting, because they are rarely paired up together, especially in the later seasons.

And as Manny try to make Gloria a gift, Alex discovers Haley and Arvin dating. Less interesting, but still present.

Spanked for the Memories (9.15/07-03-2018)

Very quickly, because i hated this one. Jay and Gloria try to spice their sexual life with spanks, while they also wonder if Joe deserves some. Meanwhile, Claire gets invited to Mitch and Cam's event and smashes the piano while Alex helps Phil with a mean customer (i forgot to tell Phil inherited a magical store in 9.06, something Claire prevented him from having).

- No Haley, Luke or Manny in that one. While Luke was missed, this was one of the two MF episodes to have Alex as the only Dunphy kid to appear.
- Lilly is only heard, but not seen in that one.

- My bad, i forgot about Longines, but he is the sixth cast member to appear in an episode in which at least one kid is absent, apart from the parents. He shares this with Margaret, Bill, Dylan, Dom and Ben.

Wine Weekend (9.16/21-03-2018)

I liked this one, a tad better, not fully.

So Haley bring the adults and Manny (because he is the designated driver) to her boss's place. Yep she has a new one. I forgot to say in 9.13 that she met Mira Sorvino who gave her a job. Apparently, she trusts her enough to live in her place during a week-end. They just don't have to touch any jewel.

Claire and Jay tried to hide Stella's presence, while Mitch and Gloria decided to go to a Oprah Winfrey's show (she is not seen, only mentioned) and met Ronaldo (we learn that he is from Guatemala in this one).

As Manny plays detectives in order to know who stole the diadem, Phil and Cam tell us they joined an hip hop class. The teacher actually liked their performances, and found them excellent, without Mitch and Claire who also joined. So, they want to impress him, the best part, i like Phil and Cam's stories.

Royal Visit (9.17/28-03-2018)

So, this episode is actually a great surprise. It is about cool people.

Let's start with Mitch and Cam who this week participate at a retreat and meet Steve Valentine (House, Psych, Monk... Interestingly, he is dubbed in this episode by Pierre Tessier who voiced Wilson in House). The only thing is Cam desperately wants to meet George Brett (as himself) because the Royals practice next to the camp. Cam has a choice.

Meanwhile, Phil, Claire and Luke are ready to meet Arvin and Haley. But Alex's boyfriend Bill (Jimmy Tatro, from Home Economics) is here too. Soon, a battle engage between Claire and Phil, because of an intelligence question but i admire the way Phil and Claire comfort Arvin, damn, those have a very strong emotional intelligence.

And Jay and Gloria meet Joe's classmate cool parents. The dad is a stuntman, while the mom served food for american soldiers in Iraq. This was a very good plot.

- No Manny or Lilly in this one. So, Luke becomes the only regular kid to appear in every episodes implying a sportive person (even if he/she does not play himself/herself).

Daddy Issues (9.18/04-04-2018)

A simple one. In this episode, every daddy has an issue. Let's start with Phil. It's the fourth time he celebrates his anniversary with Claire. But for once, she found an appropriate gift, while Phil had nothing. He tried to find what she wanted with Luke and later Michael Churven's help (the actor was a dad in 9.12 and will appear again in 9.21) but maybe he were wrong.

Though he did not share with any of them, Phil was at the same mall Mitch and Cam went. Both had to deal with Lilly's puberty and some bra, yep.

And this week, Alex and Joe switched families. Joe stays at Dunphies to play a video game, while Alex does some DNA tests and reveal Manny's biological dad could be a guy named Jorge ? I did not like this one, because Manny is Javier's son, not Jay's and also because Jay never adopted Manny (otherwise, his name would have been Manny Pritchett).

ChIps and Salsa (9.19/11-04-2018)

Mitchell is a cop, and he arrives in town. He has to help a policeman during the day, but if he lives a great life, Cam, on the opposite is sat at the back and never sees anything. Poor Cam.

Mother ! (9.20/02-05-2018)

So, an episode about Dede who appears in every house in this episode. I find it average, honestly.

So, again Dede and Mitchell clash. Apparently, Cam is used to temper both of them. Yep. Meanwhile, Phil, Alex, Haley and Luke all have bad news to tell to Claire as she is exceptionnally jovial. I can't even remember why the girls panicked, just that Phil and Luke destroyed Claire's favourite photo.

And Jay and Manny teamed up to make a movie. Yep.

The Escape (9.21/09-05-2018)

So, i ignore if you watched that show and if it exists in either Ukrainian version (or if you could watch it in English if you're interested/have time) but here was an episode i particularly hated. And it illustrates my opinion about nursing home.

I explain myself. The adults have to visit Becky (Jay's sister) who live in a retirement home. Don't ask me why Phil, Cam and Gloria are here too, they even did not knew her. So, Jay, Mitch and Claire show up and it turns out Becky is hated by everyone. Mitch did not find the courage to tell her he was gay, Claire stole her neckless and Jay only wanted to know some vault's combination, if i remember correctly. The elderly people are depicted as some clichés and i found it particularly gruesome.

Meanwhile, as Cam, Phil and Gloria had their own story, they found themselves locked in a room and believed it was an escape game. To be honest, i wish they could have participed at a real one, i felt bore.

Finally, with this episode, every kid (and character) has been injured or hospitalized at least one, including Haley who used some patchs offered by her boss. Previously, she tried to befriend Arvin's parents (including Kate Burton who also starred in This Is Us, but not in Geere's episodes). But Arvin's behavior was so mean she left and passed out.

At the hospital, she meets all of her emergencies contact, including Andy, Rainer (both exit from the show after that one, though Andy is still mentioned in the season 10) and.. .Dylan. I wish the last one just exited instead of the two previous, Rainer only appears in the last five seconds.

Dylan is also very cheeky in this episode, both Andy and him moved on with their personal lives, Andy has a girlfriend whose name is Joséphine and Dylan is married. This episode was a huge deception.

Clash of Swords (9.22/16-05-2018)

It's hard to believe that, but even the finale is a failure. I actually did not like it at all. In it, Jay and Claire meet Ben Schwartz , who is an electronical's closet company president and want to start an association with them. Elsewhere, Gloria and Cam conspire in order to destroy Joe's classmate's party because it falls on the same day that his. And of course, Gloria meets Dr Duncan again.

As for Phil and Mitch, they go to a scifi convention where they meet Harry Groener (Charmed, Quantum Leap both original versions) and Phil spoils everything. What is wrong with you, writers ? You also made a D plot in which Manny tries to convince Alex and Haley to go on a trip with him ? Very forgettable.

Yea, "American family" as the show is named in Ukrainian, exsists in Ukraine, however I haven't watched it - it's unfunny for me. "Not my cup of tea" as said

Season 10



I Love A Parade (10.01/26-09-2018)

So, season 10 is on and the first time, Modern Family celebrates Independance Day. To be honest, i'm not American, and never visited US, but i know about some hot dogs contests, and Phil and Luke practice. It was cool, so were Alex and Claire in this one, because they decided to become kind of couch potato. Love that scene.

I'm less fan of the rest. Jay and Gloria celebrate, but Joe has trouble because he does not like it, and Manny is not here, because he fears to cross some bridge. Lilly helps him via phone, while Mitch and Cam have now to raise their nephew (Pam is in jail, yep).

And as for Haley, she meets... Dylan (to be honest, i curse one of the producers. Andy was supposed to come back for this season, but the comedian was unavailable, so Reid was brought back, one of the worst mistake. Plus, Dylan is now divorced. And guess his "kids" were his step, actually).
