This is tough for me, and I'm sure, many of you people. But basically, we're brainstorming the following things;

-Two reasons/criticisms of why you dislike Classic Simpsons
-One reason why you like Modern Simpsons

Lets see what NHC comes up with! (While the rest of you post, I'll try to think of something :-/)

And...of course, we'll accumulate the list.

I can't really think of any substantial criticisms for Old Simpsons (I don't subscribe to the term "Classic Era"), but one thing I like about New Simpsons is that the writers are not afraid to outright troll the audience (e.g. Ralph running for President, a talking bar rag).

Um, probably the only aspect superior about modern Simpsons is that the visuals are more updated. Some periods during the classic era had a lot of rough, sketchy linings (around late Season 4 through Season 5 especially), while others suffered from pale color schemes. The balance of hues improved substantially around the time Girly Edition aired during Season 9, but it wasn't until Treehouse of Horror IX, the first episode produced for the Season 10 lineup, that the textures looked perfectly smooth and solid as well. Of course, if technological resources are your only advantage, that's not anything to be particularly proud of.

  1. There's a few episodes and moments in season 4 that feel very last minute, or have poorly-dubbed ADR
  2. Oakley & Weinstein relied way too much on "side character's secret past finally revealed!" plots

  1. I guess I like that there's more variation in skies? Lots of nice colors. Before it was generally just day or night

Two reasons/criticisms of why you dislike Classic Simpsons

1. Sometimes the animation can be dull and off in mouth movements.

2. Uh... they do to many side character stories?

One reason why you like modern Simpsons.

1. ...I like their sheets.

Whatever state Springfield is in.
Two criticism of why I COULD dislike Classic SImpsons
I COULD be a total Family Guy Fan who believed that The Simpsons is a ripoff of Family Guy.
I COULD be just some kid born in the HD era and said the animation for The Simpsons was crappy.
One reason why you COULD like Modern Simpsons over Classic Simpsons
I COULD be a HD TV freak.

But I'm not thankfully.

1. Homer was "high-lighter" yellow in a few episodes
2. Mouth synchronization was a little rough, mouth was a little stiff

1. More detailed and smooth animation, more vibrantly colored.

1. Sometimes the animation or voices are downright awful (Seasons 1 to 3).
2. The couch gags really don't consistently get good until at least Season 7.

1. In some ways it's funnier.

Controversial brainstorming?

Isn't using the word 'brainstorming' itself controversial?

Not really, not unless you're using it to offend the 'target' of said word.

Anyway,

2 things I don't like about the classic era:

1) Ridiculous expansion of some side characters.

2) Flanders is 60.......that was just stupid.

1 thing I like about the Modern Era:

The episodes that have that 'classic' vibe to them.

Milhouse once mentioned a city very close to mine.
In even the classic era, there are some moments which feel awkward (like how oddly somber and depressing the show got from time to time in S1 and S2) or poorly thought-out compared to what the show would become when it would later hit its stride. Unusual guest appearances abound, odd jokes (like Homer screaming when Brockman calls labor laws a "dinosaur" or something like that) sometimes don't mesh well on repeated viewing. As far as the modern era, I think the animation has gotten crisper and more detailed. As far as a non-aesthetic change, uh, I like Dan's portrayal of Homer in these later seasons.

not to be rude but I don't think many people class Season 10 as part of the classic era
