I just did the 2 hour task of dusting my simpsons collection last night, there has got to be an eaiser way, with 125 figures and 27 playsets (not to mention 30 mini figures) it gets tiring, how you you all clean/dust your collections? Anyone tried the canned air used for keyboards? I'm getting tires of having to dust Smithers hair with a q-tip to get all the dust off of him.

Well, the easiest solution for some people is just to keep all the figures in their boxes, but if their opened--like mine happen to be--I just dust them like you said. I haven't really found a much easier solution. I don't think the canned air would help too much.

I work in a photo lab, where dust kills good prints and negatives, so we're always having to fight the problem. Canned air is really high pressure, so using it could be more of a headache than help. I know it's powerful enough to knock over the minis, and probably most of the kids. And if your collection is like mine, when one falls, about 25 fall in chain reaction. Plus, if the dust has sat for very long, canned air will only brush off the loose particles, and not the entire dust.

I try and lightly dust once a week, with a light duster so that there isn't as much dust build up, making cleaning once a month harder. They also have some little staticly charged brushes that attract dust to them that are useful in light dusting. They have them at most camera shops and aren't expensive at all.

Since I keep my figures MOC, I usually dust them once every month or so. It is extremely easy to dust the top portion of the plastic bubble. A good dusting usually takes me up to 20 minutes.

I feel your pain. I have 100+ figures and 25+ playsets setup to look like a little Springfield. But I have found a quick trick -

Take a very large beach towel.. the largest you can buy and wet it in the sink. Let it hang on the shower rod until it is moist but not dripping wet. Lay it on a large table or the clean floor and dump about twenty figures (in a single layer) in the center (remove the glasses from Smithers, Flanders, Grandpa etc.) and then fold up the side of the towel and rub all the figures at once. It does a pretty good job. You have to do the playsets one at a time but it only takes about 30 seconds each!

The only other thing you can do is invest in glass covered display cabinets. China dish hutches are ideal because they have over-head lights on each shelf and clear glass doors - but they can be expensive.

Good luck and happy cleaning!

my unopened collection is no problem, for my loose set i have them displayed on a custom cabinet/shelving unit i made...the trick is i cover it up every night, just throw a couple of sheets. it keeps the dust out, made the unit about 6 months ago and they look clean as when i opened them up. when i finish my scale springfield then things will be a bit trickier, perhaps lots of sheets.

There's no way I would take my whole thing apart at once and dump them all out. It probably doesn't take as long as dusting them seperately, but I don't think I'd be able to put them all back in position like that without going insane.

I just dust my stuff even though i have 6 South Park costume heads, homer and bart, three classic 50's aliens costumes heads, star wars and simpsons action figures, puzzles, piggie banks it takes so long just dusting that stuff.

Thanks guys, its not just my
Simpsons, I have 100's & 100's of Star Wars, my Horror collection (statues, masks, figures and a Life sized Chucky) I guess I'll just have to bite the bullet and do my cleaning the hard way.
