The most popular Simpsons character in the 1990's decade was Bart Simpson.

Now he's the second most popular Simpsons character after his father Homer Simpson. Bart lost popularity over the years.

Well, part of that was the show deciding to focus more on Homer. The Scully years were especially Homer-heavy.

It's interesting how nobody ever talks about how Bartmania was probably mostly a thing in North America and maybe a few other places. In much of the world, The Simpsons either didn't start airing untill a few years after it's US debut, or it took a while for it to become a big deal, thus Bartmania never gripped those places.

Due to this, in much (if not most) of the world, the idea that Bart was ever the most popular character of The Simpsons is quite alien. As far as most people are concerned, Homer was always the most popular character on the show.

Exactly. How far can you go with Bart? Seeing Bart get into trouble was so limiting. You could do so much more with Homer.

The "D'oh!" is more popular than "Ay Caramba!", "Eat My Shorts!" and "Don't Have A Cow, Man!". Well gold for Homer, silver for Bart.
