These are the ones I didn't like and that I've only seen once:

Maybe if enough people give them positive reviews then I will give them another chance

Blade Runner (1982)
There Will Be Blood (2007)
Battleship Potemkin (1925)
For All Mankind (1989)
Nosferatu (1922)
Duck Soup (1933)
Brazil (1985)
Un Chien Andalou (1929)
Belle de Jour (1967)
Cabaret (1972)
Zelig (1983)
Blowup (1966)
Man of Aran (1934)
Videodrome (1983)
Holy Motors (2012)
Dog Star Man (1964)
Gummo (1997)

What about you? What supposedly great movies don't you like?

oh yeah, add black swan to my list and I haven't seen the other two

add lost in translation to my list for that matter

Funny Games (1997)
Bridesmaids (It was so bad that I stopped watching it at the 55 minute mark.)
Fast Times at Ridgemont High
Broken Flowers
Lost in Translation
Better Off Dead
Frozen
Blades of Glory
Citizen Kane
Traffic
Dallas Buyers Club
As Good as it Gets
Childs Play (The sequels weren't too bad though except for Seed of Chucky.)
Killer Joe
Taken
Superbad
The Social Network
Dazed and Confused
Paths of Glory (I love most of Stanley Kubrick's movies, but I was very underwhelmed by this one.)

2001 (thanks Oss for reminding me :D )
Clockwork Orange
Blade Runner
Any movie after 2000 (except Lord of the Rings, one or two harry potter movies and Spiderman 1 & 2) edit: this obviously includes Dark Knight

probably a million others too.

That classical music is the go-to when you want to establish your movie as epic, pretentious and mature or "edgy" immediately deters me.

I'll take Lost in translation as well. And:

Aguirre, the wrath of God
Badlands
Days of heaven
Arsenic and old lace
The night of the hunter
Das Boot
The wayward cloud
13 lakes
The exorcist
The Texas chainsaw massacre (1974)
The cat returns
Gerry
Elephant

And I'm not too fond of:

Cinema Paradiso
It's a wonderful life
Shadow of a doubt
The searchers
L'Atalante
The magnificent Ambersons
Germany, year zero
Howl's moving castle
When the wind blows
2046
Frozen
To kill a mockingbird

I'm just typing this in my phone, so I'll elaborate later if anything... These are all first impressions and more than 3 years ago in most cases so my reasonings won't make much sense now.

There are a lot of good movies being shit on in this thread

none hurt as much as citizen kane, 2001 and a clockwork orange though...

For some reason I don't seem to connect with the 70s as well as most modern movie fans do. There are some of my top favorites in there, though.

I think some people have a different definition of the word acclaimed than I do

I guess some of my choices don't fully apply because they are polemic even among critics, like The wayward cloud if I remember correctly, but still, are all well-respected.

Will try to bring a more complete list tomorrow, by the way. Since I've been rating stuff for years, these things are easy to compile for me.

Everyone has their own tastes but if I was to urge you to watch one of these again it would be the night of the hunter. It's one of my all time favourites.

Oh boy, let's see...

Seven Samurai
Lord of the Rings (I'm not a fan of any of them, Return of the King least of all)
Once Upon a Time in the West
Full Metal Jacket
Monty Python and the Holy Grail
Lion King
Reservoir Dogs
V for Vendetta
Gravity
The Usual Suspects
M*A*S*H
Lawrence of Arabia
Amelie
Aliens
Ferris Bueller's Day Off
The Godfather (both parts)
Nashville
Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid
8 1/2
Brief Encounter
La Haine

haha these threads wind me up because i always enjoy so many of the films that are mentioned. not a big fan of these, though:

2 or 3 things i know about her
close encounters of the third kind
don't look now
inception
the jerk
la jetée
mean streets
poltergeist
temple of doom
y tu mamá también

and i can't get into anything i've seen by terry gilliam (12 monkeys, brazil...haven't seen time bandits yet), lars von trier (antichrist, melancholia) or michael mann (thief, heat). i agree with a few ones mentioned in the first post: battleship potemkin, blade runner, gummo...and yeah, stan brakhage is definitely not for me. i would have agreed with 2001 after i saw it for the first time, but i've grown to like it more on subsequent viewings (especially the middle section with hal). i always tune out during the final psychedelic sequence, though.

Blade Runner
The Killing
The Conversation
original Star Wars trilogy
Life of Brian

if you were to give one of those another chance I would recommend 'Don't Look Now'. and I would recommend 'Dancer in the Dark' which is the favourite lars von trier that I've seen

like half of this list is insane. you don't like fucking shadow of a doubt?!!!

A clockwork orange
Pulp Fiction
funny games
amour
the few rohmer's I've seen haven't done much for me but that's probably gonna change.

Gummo is basically cinema in it's perfect form but I could understand if people don't like it

I certainly wouldn't call Gummo "acclaimed". It has a cult following, but I'm pretty sure most people hated it.

I didn't really know what to think of it. It's paradoxically trying too hard and not trying hard enough. :P
