2018 NHC Winter Music Showdown (Voting Thread:RESULTS)

1. clint eastwood (lol what @ this round)
2. maxo kream (first song was kinda limp)
3. danzon no 2 (my girl was a mess outside of the hook, the second was pleasant but too long. so Edmund was consulted and picked danzon no 2)
4. lord finesse (ab soul has Skills but the song was pre stale with a boring beat. lord finesse is cornier but the beat is way better and at least he fits it)
5. club des belugas (party all the time is a catchy 80s jam, how could it be is a boring ballad. Sad. uve let me down edward)
6. keiko matsui (didn't like wcbb at all)
7. new world army (horrifying round)
8. joy peters (boring cheesy rap vs budget stock aitken waterman. yeah the latter wins.)

pre shit round Innit

1. The Knife – High School Poem
2. FOH - Cuz Lightyear ft. Maxo Kream
3. Arturo Marquez - Danzon No. 2
4. Lord Finesse - Funky Technician
5. Club des Belugas - Something Big And Endless
6. Keiko Matsui – Reflections
7. Lido Pimienta - Fornicarte Es Un Arte feat Melody McKiver
8. Joy Peters - It Will Be Heaven

1. The Knife – High School Poem
I'm not exactly in love with either, but don't dislike either song. Slight preference for High School Poem.

2. FOH - Cuz Lightyear ft. Maxo Kream
I didn't dislike the Inner City, but it was a bit of a mess at times. Cuz Lightyear was jamming all the way through.

3. Arturo Marquez - Danzon No. 2
My Girl had some really good parts, but a lot of it was just a mess. Danzon No 2 is beautifully composed, and beautifully performed. The build is fantastic.

4. Lord Finesse - Funky Technician
TDUD was a bit of a mess at times, and definitely not the best thing I have heard from Ab Soul. Funky Technician is indeed funky and gets my vote here easily.

5. Club des Belugas - Something Big And Endless
Something Big and Endless is a solid jam. How Could it Be? was, uh, not my cup.

6. Keiko Matsui – Reflections
Peace 2 Da Streets was genuinely a lot of fun to listen to, but I can't say no to Keiko.

7. Lido Pimienta - Fornicarte Es Un Arte feat Melody McKiver
Never been overly keen on New Model Army. Lido Pimienta is fabulous though. More viola solos please.

8. Joy Peters - It Will Be Heaven
Didn't love either, liked both. I'm a little burned out on cheesy hip hop at this point, so my vote goes to Joy Peters.

01. Clint Eastwood – Honky Tonk Man
02. FOH - Cuz Lightyear ft. Maxo Kream
03. Kool Skool - My Girl
04. Lord Finesse - Funky Technician
05. Club des Belugas - Something Big And Endless
06. Keiko Matsui – Reflections
07. Lido Pimienta - Fornicarte Es Un Arte feat Melody McKiver
08. Joy Peters - It Will Be Heaven

1. The Knife – High School Poem (one of their smaller songs vs yawn)
2. Matt Reed - The Inner City
3. Kool Skool - My Girl (this is super messy, but the other song is like 9 minute Tom and Jerry background music soooo)
4. Lord Finesse - Funky Technician (it's decent, the other one had nothing going on)
5. Club des Belugas - Something Big And Endless (easy choice)
6. Keiko Matsui – Reflections (great lounge music)
7. Lido Pimienta - Fornicarte Es Un Arte feat Melody McKiver (both of these are terrible)
8. Joy Peters - It Will Be Heaven (another easy choice)

the knife (lol that match)
FOH (first track was good until that annoying and frankly bad second part)
kool skool (vanilla ice x parappa the rapper sorta shit, prefer it more than disney music sans cartoon)
lord finesse (somebody hug ab soul)
club des belugas (swings hard)
keiko matsui (fine dining music that would have me paying attention)
new model army (jesus christ what a match, both were pretty awful)
joy peters (duh)

too much corn rap this round, pls let there be some goddamn variety for C and D

1. The Knife – High School Poem (liked both)
2. FOH - Cuz Lightyear ft. Maxo Kream (liked both again. Gonna peep more of that other guys work.)
3. Kool Skool - My Girl (love the chorus on this. Other song is nice too.)
4. Lord Finesse - Funky Technician (hardest of the round. Want to vote for both)
5. Club des Belugas - Something Big And Endless (both are bad)
6. West Coast Bad Boyz – Peace 2 Da Streets (othersong was zzzzzz)
7. New Model Army - Better Than Them(both bad
8. Joy Peters - It Will Be Heaven (dig it)

lotta these tracks gettin the shaft via live listen

1. The Knife – High School Poem (like both)
2.FOH - Cuz Lightyear ft. Maxo Kream (Damn first song was great too. Actually gonna have to look that guy up dunno who he is. But the other has Maxo on a MB beat. Just not fair)
3.Kool Skool - My Girl (other song was okay. This one wasn't amazing but had a perfect chorus. love it)
4.Lord Finesse - Funky Technician (probably the toughest match up of the round)
5.Club des Belugas - Something Big And Endless (easily the worst match of the round. This one barely wins)
6.West Coast Bad Boyz – Peace 2 Da Streets (west coast hip hop vs james bond menu music. It's gonna be West Coast Hip-hop)
7.New Model Army - Better Than Them (the british are basically shit at punk and all it's off shoots but this one was playing a song that just doesn't hit with me at all)
8.Kurtis Blow - Big Time Hood (other was good and will probably win this round)

There is still about 22 hours to vote. 1. The Knife – High School Poem (HSP is sadly very short but kinda really dig it its moody feel. The movie track is ok.)
2. Matt Reed – The Inner City (Inner City was chill, but I didn't care for the part from 3 min and on. And this MEGA prude can only handle so many swears in one song so I'm gonna be lame and go with Matt Reed)
3. Arturo Marquez - Danzon No. 2 (Wow Kool Skool, I seriously thought a New Edition song made it in lol. Throwing a vote to the Classical Music)
4. Lord Finesse - Funky Technician (Neither of these really jumped out at me.)
5. Club des Belugas - Something Big And Endless (The Eddie Murphy song was ok but Club des Belugas song was quite pleasant.)
6. Keiko Matsui – Reflections (calming AF)
7. New Model Army - Better Than Them (Don't like either of these. The vocals kill the first one for me.)
8. Joy Peters - It Will Be Heaven (I like both but I have a clear bias for certain types of songs.)

1. The Knife – High School Poem
2. FOH - Cuz Lightyear ft. Maxo Kream
3. Arturo Marquez - Danzon No. 2
4. Lord Finesse - Funky Technician
5. Club des Belugas - Something Big And Endless
6. Keiko Matsui – Reflections
7. New Model Army - Better Than Them
8. Joy Peters - It Will Be Heaven

1. Clint Eastwood – Honky Tonk Man
2. FOH - Cuz Lightyear ft. Maxo Kream
3. Kool Skool - My Girl
4. Ab Soul - T.D.U.D
5. Club des Belugas - Something Big And Endless
6. West Coast Bad Boyz – Peace 2 Da Streets
7. New Model Army - Better Than Them
8. Joy Peters - It Will Be Heaven

1. Clint Eastwood - Honkytonk Man
2. FOH - Cuz Lightyear ft. Maxo Kream (Find it very jarring when the name of the song appears before the artist though )
3. Kool Skool - My Girl (Really good match. The classical orchestra amps it up very nicely, and My Girl is classic jackswing rap.)
4. Lord Finesse - Funky Technician
5. Eddie Murphy - How Could It Be (Eddie sings this one wonderfully!)
6. West Coast Bad Boyz - Peace 2 Da Streets
7. New Model Army - Better Than Them
8. Joy Peters - It Will Be Heaven (Good song to finish the round out)

Wow, this round was MUCH better than the first one. There wasn't a single song I disliked, even the weaker ones I didn't mind listening to.

1. The Knife – High School Poem
2. Matt Reed – The Inner City
3. Arturo Marquez - Danzon No. 2 (I was going to vote for Kool Skool but then I read the uncultured swines respond here complaining about classical music needing a cartoon to back it up and so this is my vote out of pure spite)
4. Lord Finesse - Funky Technician
5. Club des Belugas - Something Big And Endless (really oss, eddie murphy, really?)
6. Keiko Matsui – Reflections (lol west coast bad boyz)
7. New Model Army - Better Than Them
8. Joy Peters - It Will Be Heaven

1. The Knife – "High School Poem"

4. Ab Soul - "T.D.U.D"
5. Club des Belugas - "Something Big And Endless"
6. Keiko Matsui – "Reflections"

Solid round imo. Definitely more variety that's for sure.

1. Pete Rock & CL Smooth – "Escape"
2. A Silent Film - "Danny, Dakota and the Wishing Well"
3. Allie X – "Simon Says"
4. John Cale - "Hanky Panky Nohow"
5. Main Source - "Live At The BBQ"
6. Sammus - "Comments Disabled"
7. Tomoko Aran (亜蘭知子) - "Body to Body"
8. XTC – "Earn Enough For Us"

I was going to vote this morning on round 1b but I slept in, whoops.

1. Tom Waits- Step Right Up
2. A Silent Film- Danny, Dakota and The Wishing Well
3. Allie X- Simon Says
4. John Cale- Hanky Panky Nohow
5. Main Source- Live At The BBQ
6. Twin Cabins- Laika
7. Tomoko Aran- Body To Body
8. XTC- Earn Enough For Us

One of the better rounds of all the showdowns we've had. A lot of stuff is going on the Ipod.

1. Tom Waits - Step Right Up (This was the hardest match by FAR. Both songs were so great, and I constantly wavered between this one and the other one. Even right now I feel both are maybe literally equal, but I can't be thinking for too long.)
2. A Silent Film - Danny, Dakota And The Wishing Well (The second song is worth listening to just for the incredible "what the fuck" factor, I actually felt a bit scared during it. But it wasn't comfortable to listen to, so I'm going with the rather nice-sounding Wishing Well)
3. Allie X - Simon Says (Boy, that visual really gave me the chills. Unlike Scream though it's much more easy on the ears, and the singer has a good voice)
4. Carly Rae Jepsen - Making The Most Of The Night (This is one of my favorite Carly songs)
5. Main Source - Live At The Barbeque (Cool early Nas offering)
6. Sammus - Comments Disabled (I'll go with this one, not a great rap song but the other one wasn't really anything to bring home)
7. Tomoko Aran (亜蘭知子) - Body to Body (First song is cute, but not the kind I listen to again. The second is typical fun 80's pop.
8. XTC - Earn Enough For Us (Okay song, probably the weakest match of the entire round)

Once again, really solid stuff.
