How many of the Greatest Films of All Time (2022) have you seen?

I watched Do the right thing and The gleaners and I today and that makes 78/100. 1. “Jeanne Dielman, 23, quai du Commerce, 1080 Bruxelles” (Chantal Akerman, 1975) 2. “Vertigo” (Alfred Hitchcock, 1958) 3. “Citizen Kane” (Orson Welles, 1941) 4. “Tokyo Story” (Ozu Yasujiro, 1953) 5. “In the Mood...

10 Movies You Want to See, But Haven't Gotten Around To Watching (For Whatever Reason)

So, new update. Watched La dolce vita, Rio Bravo, La grande illusion and Solaris. Out of those I only got kind of disappointed with Solaris, I had trouble connecting emotionally with it to be honest. First time that happens with Tarkovsky. I've got a couple yet to watch, hopefully this does not...

    Very Unpopular Opinions (Movie Edition)

Thanks for your mention! I agree that it could have explained in more detail, but then again this was made primarily for a Japanese audience and it has this local and generational attachment, so our alienation was perhaps something expected. The background is even more interesting; its source is...

    Very Unpopular Opinions (Movie Edition)

@BlitzPhoenix98 Seita has a major reason to act like he does... he's been raised to. He is a spoiled child and the son of a naval officer, suddenly thrown into a situation that is too big for him. Other people would have toughened up, he just did it wrong, through a misguided sense of pride. As...

how many of the 1001 movies to see before you die have you seen

Slow-paced as usual, I'm at 534/1245 (43%). That's... 2% more than last time? Give me 20-30 years and it's done.

    Anime thread

Non Non Biyori must be the one I want to watch the most. Iyashikei is my beat and this is my most essential miss. Along with seasons 2 and 3 of Aria, the really good ones apparently. I stayed forever stuck in season 1.

10 Movies You Want to See, But Haven't Gotten Around To Watching (For Whatever Reason)

I watched quite a few. Otto e mezzo, Ordet, Late spring and The sting were every bit as fascinating as expected. I have more than a few moral issues with the otherwise pretty well-done Schindler's list, and I kind of confirm that my affair with Mizoguchi is complicated with Sansho the bailiff...

Most recent year that you haven't seen a movie from

Can't help much with my literal only feature from that year, it's fine but that's all. I need recs as well xD. Asking for 1918 now that I'm at it. If you are going for shorts, Chaplin's The immigrant is definitely good though.

    Yeah, it's very good.

Most recent year that you haven't seen a movie from

Got a bit better than when I posted years ago. Assuming that 2021 doesn't count (it totally should but you know) and also assuming that it's about features, I stand at 1918 now: 2020 - Wolfwalkers 2019 - Parasite 2018 - The wolf house 2017 - The lion sleeps tonight 2016 - A silent voice 2015 -...

how many of the 1001 movies to see before you die have you seen

Okay, so I finally watched The birth of a nation. That was a big weight off my shoulders. I hated it. This is vile, rotten cinema. Somehow much worse than I expected. But it's done. Finally. The rest should be smooth compared to this chore.

how many of the 1001 movies to see before you die have you seen

Yeah, Griffith is some special guy. A 3-hour nasty KKK propaganda piece followed by a 3-hour apology. Still, I think they are movies that should be watched at least once in a lifetime, I just can't find my mood. And then there's Les vampires. Holy crap, the rest of the list may be easy to end...

how many of the 1001 movies to see before you die have you seen

Now I'm at 517/1228. Not much progression. On a side note, I've always wanted to explore what I have yet to watch chronologically, but I never get into it. That eternal roadblock called The birth of a nation (you need a special mood for 3 hours of over-the-top silent racism) keeps getting in...

    Last Movie You Watched Thread

Last few I watched: Andrei Rublev - It's three hours long which made it the main reason why I haven't yet finished with Tarkovsky, but as expected, this was great and worth every minute. The whole movie is gorgeous to watch and is a fascinating reflection on faith and humanity through the life...

    Bad episodes with good endings

Dude, where's my ranch? to me. They had such a promising episode about Homer creating his own Christmas song and finding success, it was funny, it could have some interesting satire or social commentary, etc. Then the Simpsons move to a ranch, they do stuff I don't care about for like fifteen...
